By learning how to breathe well, we drive oxygen efficiently into the lower lobes of the lungs which, due to having more parasympathetic nerve receptors will actually have a calming and repairing effect on the body - even during exercises! Proper breathing also helps us to remove more CO2 (waste) out of the body. The build up of CO2 is what makes you feel like you are suffocating when you exert yourself for example.
Proper breathing, particularly during exercise, helps you to feel more calm and even blissful, reduce stress, and therefore reduce cortisol levels in the body, which will help you burn fat more efficiently and decrease the hormonal-driven desire for comfort foods after exercise.
In this course, we will start with the absolute foundations of breathing well to ensure that every subsequent breathing practice, āsana practice, training and/or athletic performance gives you the most benefit. The course is designed to bring you step by step from the foundations of breathing to more complex forms of prāṇāyāma.
When you practice these breathing exercises regularly, your body will learn to perform in this way even during exertion in exercise and athletic performance. Your mitochondria will thank you. Be the powerhouse I know you can be.
