About us

Sylvia Carl

I help students blend yoga and Ayurveda into their routine so they can stay strong, mobile, and energized for the long haul.

My love is the mountains. When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me climbing, gravel biking, or running trails.

I’ve practiced yoga since 1993 and taught since 2007. I completed 3,057 hours of formal Ayurvedic training through the Ayurvedic Institute (with Dr. Vasant Lad) and the California College of Ayurveda, and I continue ongoing mentorship with Dr. Mary-Alice Quinn.

Before founding Yoga Shasanam, I opened and ran Ananda Health and Wellness Center for nearly a decade before successfully selling the business.

My time working at Elemental Performance and Fitness with Steve Bechtel as a personal trainer and instructing the Climb Strong program equipped me with a strong foundation of tools I still use today.

I’m a:

  • 500‑hour certified yoga teacher (Centered City Yoga)
  • Former Certified personal trainer (National Strength and Conditioning Association)
  • Precision Nutrition coach (PN1)
  • Ayurvedic practitioner (Ayurvedic Institute & California College of Ayurveda)

My work is also shaped by studies with teachers including Bernie Clark (Yin Yoga), Leslie Kaminoff (yoga anatomy), D’ana Baptiste, Charlotte Bell, Scott Moore, Richard Miller (iRest), Bhavani Maki (Yoga Sutras), and Rolf Sovik (Yoga Nidra), plus training in safe alignment, trauma‑informed yoga, psychology of change and Sanskrit.

All of this informs a practical, accessible approach that weaves yoga, recovery, and Ayurveda into real‑world, busy lives.
